Reflections of The Educational Items from This Semester...
Reflection of Debate Blogs
Questions:
What did you think of the on-line debate? Why?
How will you use this knowledge and/or skill in the future as a learner and teacher?
Responses:
1) I think the online debate was actually enjoyable. Once I could figure out what was expected of me and how to get things working, I had no troubles conveying my thoughts, responses, or comments in either the blog or the google docs. The only thing with the blog is that I kept commenting my own new comment instead of replying to everyone else’s comment so our blog had about ten comments with 15 responses. I could still follow it, it just got tough towards the end. With the google docs, it was hard to differentiate who was speaking, so in our group we assigned ourselves a font which worked for awhile but then you would acquire another person’s font after commenting on what they said so it was a little frustrating to keep changing it. Over all I had a great experience with it and liked doing it in class with everyone there but being silent and debating online and sharing my thoughts instead of having a face-to-face debate/discussion about it in class. I feel like I contributed a lot better this way.
2) I will use this knowledge and skill in the future as a learner and teacher by making sure I am responsible for making it known and being aware of cyber bullying and how to handle/respond to it if and when it is an issue with a student in my class or school. I also will be aware of all the different ways technology such as cell phones can be used in class and how to make it appropriate and useful, as well as creative so students don’t take advantage of it. The other two blogs didn’t interest me as much, but I read what classmates thought about copyrights and publishing rights within schools and I did agree that just because we are educators or students doesn’t mean we are above the law to not give the real author and researchers credit.

Cool Tools Presentation/Project
1.) What (Describe the artifact)_
This was a Cool Tools project where we worked in groups to create projects, explore the site, and come up with pros and cons to present to the class. You were also to explain how it relates to 21st century learning and how you would use it within the classroom for lesson plans or a project. For this project we worked in groups, my group was Corey, Eric, and myself. We worked really well together and I really enjoyed this project. Our website was Creaza.com. Creaza had four different aspects to the site. These four aspects were: Audio editor, Cartoon maker, Video Editor, and Mindomo/Mindmap creator. We created one of each of these aspects to show to the class. For the cartoon, we used the invasion of Normandy as a theme for history and had fun with it creating 12 different slides to explain the invasion as best as we could with what was provided. Then we created a Mind map or concept map basically of all the pros and cons for the website in general using all of the specific tools provided and taking advantage of it to show the class during our presentation. Then we created a sample of an audio music made with mix and match sounds at high and low frequencies.
2.) So what? (What is the significance of the artifact for you as a learner and as a teacher)
The significance of this artifact is that it could be very useful within the classroom setting for projects, taking notes, studying, getting a theme across and using the cartoons for thematic units or themed presentations like we did, etc. As a learner it is a new 21st century tool and different approach to a project or presentation. You can also use it to study, lay out information, and pros and cons of topics, especially with the mindmap. As a teacher, you can lay out the information for your students, add in your recorded voice to further explain your topic, and present a fun cartoon before going into depth about a topic to catch the students’ attention.
3.) What next? (How will you use this knowledge, skill in the future as a learner and teacher)
I will use this knowledge, especially the mind map in the future to study, take notes, make an interactive board with units or themes, and to share with others in a different, unique, and new way. You can also use it to study, lay out information, and pros and cons of topics, especially with the mindmap. WebQuest Project
The intention of the webQuest was to provide a project for second graders to go online and research on their own with a set of directions to complete and turn in. It’s a different form of making things creative within in the classroom and accommodating to different types of learning styles. Some students may love doing the webQuest, others may not like it as much. Students can learn new tasks such as: researching, making brochures, creative writing, writing formal letters, making schedule tables, and choosing from specified content.
The process of making the webquest was tough in a group setting, I think I would have liked it more on my own, I would have been able to make more decisions and produce more of my creative side. But I liked the idea of it and I think our groups will turn out really well, I liked the idea and concept we came up with. It’s a great idea. I would definitely use this in the classroom, it is very effective and a fun way to get students engaged in a project.

- The grade level was towards second graders.
- The content was to help pick a puppy to buy that best suits your family and convince your parents that you will take care of it by creatively writing a letter, putting together a brochure, and making a schedule table.
- The time allotted would be one week
- Content Standards Met: Writing Standards for 2nd Grade: Text types and purposes: 1. Write opinion pieces in whcih they introduce the topic or book they are writing about. State an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section. Research and Distribution of Writing: 7. Participate in shared research and writing projects. Language standards for 2nd Grade: Conventions of Standard English: 1.&2.

Wevideo Vodcast
I made a wevideo with my group about how to do a pre-workout stretch. We put captions, transitions, audio, video, and graphics to the wevideo. It took a lot of hard work, but our outcome was great! Wevideo is a bit confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it and spend a couple hours or so on the site, it shouldn’t be too hard to understand and make the video. The only thing we had trouble with was exporting the video into a link. Overall the process was long and tedious, but in the end worth it with our great video as a result. The significance of this project to me as a learner and a teacher is that it provides a new creative and diverse source of technology for projects to be presented. This applies to me as a student and a teacher because I can use it to present information as a student, or as a teacher to my class. It is a very creative and personal way to introduce a topic. I think it is fun and helps add a new learning opportunity and especially applies to visual learners. I will use this knowledge skill as a learner to perhaps use it for another project, become more comfortable with it and be able to master it and use it to introduce a topic. It will allow me to have a new dynamic for a project rather than a plain power point or poster to display information. As a teacher I will use it with my students for the same purposes. It can be a fun and creative way to display their work or new information they are learning or want to display. It also incorporates the aspect of technology into a lesson plan or subject section.

Prezi
This was such a great project to engage in. I would definitely use this in my classroom, especially with my Early Childhood Major, kids in the classroom would enjoy this type of powerpoint with introducing new lesson plans, topics, or like the example I used with mine, Animal groups. Showing them interactive pictures and videos and having it all together right there is a great organizational skill as well. Students will love this, and at this level, I could try to help them make one, but more so I would use it to introduce topics and have a new twenty first century learning activity in my classroom. I thoroughly enjoyed this project and thought it was a great tool for education. Customizing projects and showing your creativity to your students or whoever your audience may be.

This project was a great tool for twenty first century learning and a wonderful way to integrate the whole class and their individual ideas into one thought cloud. Its a very easy tool and a great way to have an educational profile with different groups added onto it and sharing thoughts.
